Worldwide Church of God

Founded in 1934 in Eugene , Oregon , USA , by Herbert W. Armstrong, from Des Moines , Iowa , who died in 1986, at the age of 93.

68,000 members

Address: Box 111 , Pasadena , CA 91123 , USA .

Radio and TV pioneer:

With only 68,000 members, is influential, because Armstrong was the pioneer of Radio and TV Evangelism, with "The World Tomorrow" telecast, watched by 150 million people weekly, and the magazines "The Plain Truth" and "Quest" sent free of charge to 2 million people monthly... and an income of $150 million per year...

"Armstrong", is their only "little Pope", who left a career of failure in business to turn into the business of religion... travelling on a private Jet, he met with Egypt's Sadat, Israel's Begin, India's Gandhi... declared that Queen Elizabeth sits on the throne to which Christ will return... he divorced at age 92, and his sexual misconduct extended even to incest...

A Millennial Church:

A child of the Adventists, like the Jehovah's Witnesses, proclaims the imminent Second Coming of Jesus Christ, who was announced for 1936, 1943, 1972, 1975... Jesus never came, but he was a good source of income!.

Jesus will come, the battle of Armageddon will occur, and Satan will be defeated... and for 1,000 years Christ will rule in the "paradise earth", without poverty, disease, famine, war... and after the 1,000 years, a second judgment will be rendered and all condemned souls will be given a second chance of salvation... eventually the reign of Christ will prevail all over the world, and for eternity... humans are born to become God...

The "Anglo-Israelism":

This is a church of many "strange doctrines", among them, the "Anglo-Israelism": After the captivity, the descendants of Judah returned to Palestine, the "Jews", but the other 10 tribes of Israel ended up in England from Ninive; and now the Anglo-Americans are the descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel, the "chosen people of God"; England is "Ephraim", and the USA is "Manasseh", from Gen.48-49... a belief that caused the split with the Adventists.

All other Christian churches are in error. They observe the Jewish feasts, the Sabbath, and Kosher; without clergy, the "services" are often held in public buildings. Denies the Trinity.

At the death of Armstrong, in 1986, the Church had doctrinal and structural changes: His son, Garner Ted, heads in Texas the " Church of God International " with 5,000 members. WCG publishes "The Philadelphia Trumpet" magazine, "Malachi's Message", "Key of David" TV program, with $163 million annual revenue... Armstrong legacy of errors and business goes on...
