Water converted into wine at Cana

Our Life on Earth: A Wedding Feast!

The Gospel of St. John has been qualified as the greatest document treasured by humanity, and it is very easy to understand:

1- The first half: There are 7 miracles (chapters 1-11)... The Book of the Signs, with 10 discourses of Jesus.

2- The second half: The Holy Week (chapters 12-21)... The Book of the Passion, with 4 discourses of Jesus.

The 7 miracles are not called just "miracles", but "signs", or "miraculous signs", because each one is a "sign" of what the life of a Christian should be…

Our Life on Earth: A Wedding Feast!:

… And it is fitting that the first miraculous sign is a "wedding feast", at Cana, showing that the life of a Christian on earth is a "wedding feast"… the honeymoon will be after death, in the seventh miracle of the resurrection of Lazarus, in chapter 11… but this life on earth is a wedding feast: Your soul is invited at this wedding feast, and not as any guest, but as the bride of the Lamb… your soul is the bride of Jesus, the Lamb!.

This is also the theme of the Song of Songs of Solomon: The king goes to his vineyard and falls in love with a humble worker. The king is God, the humble worker is your soul. In the second chapter, the king goes to the house of the worker, because he wants to marry her. In the third chapter he actually marries her… God marries your soul!…

Jesus said: "The kingdom of God may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son"… to this banquet everybody is invited, and the only requirement to attend this weeding feast is to ware "a wedding robe", to have Jesus in you! (Matt.22, Lk.14:15-24).

Revelation shouts, "Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and the bride has made herself ready" (Rev.19:7).

Consequently, the life of a Christian, your life and mine, shall have the enthusiasm and joy and love and peacefulness of a wedding feast with the Lamb… now, on earth!… there will be problems, like in Cana, they had no wine!… but even with the problems, this life on earth is got to have the enthusiasm of a bride on her wedding feast…

… If your life on earth, now, does not have this kind of enthusiasm, something is wrong with your life as a Christian, even if you are a nun or a priest or a pastor…a sad Christian is a bad Christian, indeed, an unhappy Christian is the greatest anomaly of this world!.

… If Jesus is in your heart, you should live now with his joy and love, doing the same things he did, healing the sick, casting out the devils of drugs and alcohol and greed… with fear to nobody and to nothing, because Jesus is in you, the Lord of the world, the Lord of health and power and honor, the owner of the stars and of all the cars and houses and of all the money in the world… and Jesus is in you, and has everything for you!.

Why, then, you may ask, why do I have an old Chevy and not a new Cadillac?. I don't know why, but Jesus knows!. May be with the old Chevy you are going to Heaven, and with a new Cadillac you may end up in Hell, and, for sure, Jesus wants to see you in Heaven with the old Chevy that in Hell with a brand new Cadillac!.

What about the leukemia or heart sickness?… another problem like in Cana!: If your 5 year-old child dies with leukemia, you should not say "poor child!", but rather, "what a blessed child, that Jesus brought to Heaven so soon!"… even the death of a Christian should be a cause of joy, because death is the only door to enter eternal Haven, which is the ultimate goal of our life, to be in the eternal honeymoon with the Lamb. By the way, the feast day of the Saints is not the day they were born, but the day the died, the greatest day of their life on earth.

What about an earthquake, or other disasters?:

Jesus in your heart is the Lord of earthquakes and thunderstorms... and if the Antichrist comes, let him come!... Jesus in you is more powerful that 1000 Antichrists put together. "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God... if God is for us, who is against us?... we are more than conquerors through him that loves us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom.8:28-39).

A Christian should be always in joy and peace and love in all circumstances in life, always giving thanks with joy to God for everything, and in everyplace and circumstance… it is the way of praying constantly, and it is the secret of joy in this life, as St. Paul says: "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, giving thanks to god in all circumstances… giving thanks to God for everything" (1Tes.5:16-18, Eph.5:20).

Many Christians do exactly the opposite:

Instead of giving thanks to God with joy "for" everything and "in" all circumstances, they keep complaining to God for everything: If it rains, they get wet. If it snows, they have to shovel. Even if it is a beautiful sunshine, it is too hot, or may be they are working and can't enjoy it… they live as if God does everything wrong, and at the wrong time!… instead of praying without ceasing, they are constantly blaspheming against God, and they are always unhappy, instead of rejoicing always.

God the Father,

I adore and I praise you, and in the name of Jesus, I ask you to send us the Holy Spirit, enkindle us with the fire of your love and joy, make us understand and live the glorious life of Jesus Christ in us, from faith to faith, let me live each minute of the day in the presence of Jesus, he is with me, in love with me, he cares so much about me that even the hairs of my head has well counted. Thank you Lord, I adore you and I praise your holy name. Amen.

Still more on this wedding feast:

1- In relation to Jesus:

He is our bridegroom in the wedding feast of our lives on earth… right now!.

2- In relation to the Father:

We are the "servants" (Jn.2:7). When our neighbors do not have the wine of joy in their lives, we have to help. And the way to do it is just to fill up the jars with "water", when what they need is "wine". And Jesus will make the miracle!. But only the amount of water we put in will be converted into wine. That's why we should fill the jars up to the brim… Only Jesus can save!… but the missionary or the evangelist have to put the water of their words and life into action. When a mother teaches the child with her life and words, she is also a co-redeemer with Christ, an evangelist… and if the father puts no water in the jars of his son, nothing will be converted into wine.

3- The Holy Spirit, in the Cana wedding, is represented by the "headwaiter" or the "master of the feast" ( Jn.2:8-10). In our lives, the Holy Spirit, the headwaiter, is our superior, who usually acts through a human being: The pastor in the parish, the bishop in the diocese, the husband at home... Anything we do, it should be like Jesus did: Through the headwaiter, with the approval and supervision of the superiors of the Church.

4- Virgin Mary was also invited to the Cana wedding feast (Jn.2:1, 3-8). If only Jesus would have been in that feast, they would have had no wine. Jesus didn't care, His time of making miracles had not yet come! (Jn.2:4). But there was Mary too. And because she asked him, Jesus made the miracle, though his time had not yet come… Jesus even changed the plan of God, because the intercession of his Mother!. It is a place in the Bible where the plan of God was changed. The other places where the plan of God was changed, were always through the intercession of a holy man or woman (Jn.2:3-8).

In the wedding feast of our life we should do like the people of Cana: Invite also the mother of Jesus. Just pray a Hail Mary and you will see wonders in your life. I have seen them in mine. Do you have a problem of sickness or housing or job or money?… Try Mary!… You are not a Christian, and have problems with your wife or children?… Try Mary, pray a Hail Mary!… you don't have to renounce to anything or to believe anything… it costs you nothing, so try Her!… I assure you, in the name of Jesus, you will see wonders in your life. But a warning: The ship of Mary leads only to the shores of the Church of her son Jesus.

The words of Mary, "do whatever he tells you", are her last words in the Bible, and the only commandment of the Blessed Mother (Jn 2:5)... "Do whatever Jesus tell you".

Hail Mary, Mother of Jesus, pray for us sinners now. In our lives very often there is not the wine of joy and love , but only the water of boring and doubts and fear... tell your Son to fill us with his love and joy and peace, pray for us to live like you, always with Jesus, in Jesus, for Jesus, to Jesus... because our neighbor is another Jesus. Thank you, Lord, I praise your name. Thank you Mother, you are the most blessed among women, the Mother of God and my Mother. Give me your blessing. Amen.

5 Water into wine:

This was the miracle at Cana: The conversion of 120 gallons of water into wine. The "wine" is the "sign" of joy and enthusiasm on a Jewish wedding feast. Jesus used it to institute the Sacrament of the Eucharist on a Feast of the Passover (Matt.26, Mr.14, Lk.21, 1Cor.11). And it may be a sign for us, for many Christians who live this life with the water of "boring", even in the temple, instead of living with the wine of life and joy. Wake up, my friend!... a Christian should live this life getting drunk of the wine of the Holy Spirit, filled with it, as Ephesians 5:18-20 says, addressing one another in psalms and inspired songs, singing always praises to the Lord with all your hearts and at all times, giving thanks to God for everything and at all circumstances. This wine may be the typical of the joy and ministration of the grace which Jesus came to bring (Jn.1:17).

6 The Real miracle

(Jn.2:11): Jesus converted the water into wine. But that was not the great miracle. In every miraculous sign of the Gospel of John says that people believed or not in Jesus. Here it says that "his disciples begun to believe in him". And this was the real miracle: They sow something so wonderful and so natural!. Jesus didn't try to impress anyone. He revealed his glory so naturally, that they believed in him. After the resurrection of Lazarus, many of the Jews believed in him, but the Pharisees decided to kill him (Jn.11:45-54).

Do you really believe in Jesus?… do your life has the enthusiasm and emotion of a bride on her wedding feast?… If not, keep on reading the Gospel of John, in the next chapter you may find an answer for your life.

The change of the "Eternal Plan of God":

The Epistle to the Ephesians tells us about the perfect eternal plan of God for salvation, to restore everything in Christ. At Cana, the time of Jesus to start his ministry had not yet come, as Jesus told his mother in 2:4. But He changed the eternal perfect plan of God because His Mother interceded!.

The second part of John 2:12-23, shows us what was the real time and place for Jesus to start his ministry: It was not in a little unknown town like Cana, but in Jerusalem!... in the Temple!... on the great feast of the Passover!... to clean the Temple of those who were using it for personal business, selling cattle and sheep and doves, and the money-changers, overturning their tables and throwing them out with a whip... because "the zeal of your house will consume me", as prophesied in Psalm 69:9.

Jesus took the occasion to tell us that himself is the temple of God, and for the first time he prophesied his resurrection after three days of death... and again, "many begun to believe in his name when they saw the signs he was doing" (Jn 2:23). Do you believe in Jesus Christ?.

Jn 2:20 gives the specific time of these events: "It has taken 46 years to build this temple": The reconstruction work begun in 19 BC, so this is Passover AD 28.
