The Philistines unwisely placed in the temple of Dagon the Ark of the Covenant that they had captured. That night Dagon had a miserable time.
When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. (I Samuel 5:2,3)
The sin that troubles us will bow before us when we enter the Holy of Holies and seek help from the God of Heaven. The Spirit of God will give us the upper hand so we do not yield to sin.
The Philistines attempted once more to make peace between the God of Israel and Dagon, their fish God. Putting the Ark in the same room with Dagon proved to be a disaster for Dagon just as we bring disaster upon ourselves when we attempt to serve both God and Satan..
And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. (I Samuel 5:4)
Dagon could no longer think or act. So it shall be when the Lord returns. The sin we have kept under submission by the power of the Holy Spirit will no longer be able to think or act. It is gone forever as far as we are concerned.
At His coming the Lord Jesus will put a final end to the enemies of whom we have been afraid. He will teach us to never fear the workers of darkness. We shall put our feet on their necks, so to speak.
Under the new covenant, the covenant designed to ultimately make an end of sin in the creation, the Lord Jesus forgives our sin Then through His Spirit He helps us to kill our sin, rendering it powerless. At His coming the Lord Jesus will finally remove the presence of sin from us for eternity.
We have spoken so far of the forgiving, killing, and removing of sin with regards to the individual Christian. God has much more than this in mind. He is ready now to drive sin completely from His creation.
