Back to THE SECOND GOAT

And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness: (Leviticus 16:20,21)

This booklet may not be for everyone. On the other hand, "whosoever will" may choose to avail himself or herself of the authority and power that God is ready to give to those who will decide to obey Him perfectly and sternly.

Having been a Christian for fifty-two years and a pastor for twenty-one of those years we are fairly well acquainted with church people. We are aware of the reluctance of God’s people to move past the Pentecostal experience. They know we should obey God, but the idea of coming to God with the intention of obeying Him totally and without question seems unrealistic. In other words, the Christian churches are filled with disobedient children.

In the coming new world of righteousness the thought of disobeying God in the smallest detail will be unthinkable. But how do we get from here to there?

All sin is based ultimately in rebellion, in disobedience to God.

Two goats were employed in the ceremony of the Jewish Day of Atonement (Leviticus, Chapter 16). The blood of the first goat was used to make an atonement for Israel. It was sprinkled upon and before the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

The sins of Israel were confessed over the second goat and it was led away into the wilderness, portraying the removal of the presence of sin from the camp.

Sin and rebellion against the Father were atoned for by the blood shed on the cross of Calvary. The guilt of sin has been eternally removed. The Father’s sense of justice and righteousness has been appeased.

But sin and rebellion have never been removed from the creation. Some of the most highly placed of the rebellious angels, including Satan himself, are still active in the heavens. The influence and resistance to righteousness of the wicked angels is revealed in the behavior of people on the earth.

Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. (Daniel 10:12,13)

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (II Corinthians 4:3,4)

We understand from the Scriptures that there is coming a day of redemption. This means that at some point in history the removal of sin, that which was portrayed by leading the scapegoat from the camp, will take place.

We submit to you that the beginning of the day of redemption, of the removal of sin from the creation, is upon us.

The present author was a Bible student in the old Assembly of God Berean Bible Institute in San Diego. The time was the late 1940s. He had just received the baptism with the Holy Spirit including speaking in tongues.

Soon after this a visiting teacher by the name of Oliver Ellenwood came to the school. As Brother Ellenwood discussed the Tabernacle of the Congregation he mentioned the feasts of the Lord (Leviticus, Chapter 23). Something rang like a bell in our heart although we had never before heard of the seven feasts.

The Lord spoke to us that the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:27), the sixth of the seven feasts, signifies judgment on the Church. We repeated this to Brother Ellenwood and he seemed interested. During the same period of time we became impressed with the warrior aspect of the Lord and went about our daily duties meditating on "the drums of El Shaddai." Where this expression (the drums of El Shaddai) came from we do not know. Today we can see the connection between the Day of Atonement and the drums of El Shaddai.

From that day to the present the Lord has unfolded and verified the awesome consequences of the spiritual application of the Day of Atonement having to do with judgment on the Church. Many years later we discovered that the Jews view the days from Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) as the time when God judges the world.

Of late we have begun to perceive the majesty of the plan of God, His war against evil spirits, His eternal judgment and removal of all sin from His creation. The removal of the presence of sin will make possible the spiritual fulfillment of the seventh and last feast, the feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:34). The goal is the establishing of the Kingdom of God in the heart of every saved person so that the Father is All and in all through Christ.

The authority structure of the universe is in disarray. Because of the rebellion of the hierarchy of the heavens God is establishing a new government and set of rulers over which His Son will reign supreme. As part of this far-reaching endeavor the Throne of God, which from ancient times has been in the heavens, is now in the process of being moved from the heavens to the hearts of the saints. In fact, man was created to be the eternal Throne of God. This is part of the general concept of the Incarnation of God.

The wisdom of God, His answer to the presumption of the ancient lords of the heavens, is to move His throne (which at one time had been covered by Satan’s wings) from the spirit realm into the hearts of the weakest of all God’s creatures—man. But then, the mighty Christ was born in a barn!

How God must laugh at those who dare oppose His wisdom and power.

As we said, this booklet may not be for everyone. But if your heart sings at the thought of a sin-free creation, and especially if you are willing to participate in the release of the material creation by being sternly obedient to the Lord in all He requires of you, then what we have to say is for you. Take hold of it. Serve the Lord with gladness, godly fear, and all the concentration and attention of which you are capable. Do not let a more diligent person take your crown, your talent.
