The Purpose of the Law

Why God Sends Punishment

Back to 1The Bible’s Greatest Prophecies Unlocked!

A God-hating world rejects the path set forth in the Bible. Proverbs 6:23 states, “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light.” The Hebrew word for “law” is torah, which literally means “to cause to see the light.” All are familiar with the phrase “see the light,” but probably few know that it springs directly from the word “law.”

The Psalms expand this statement in Psa 119:105: “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” A New Testament passage expands this equation. But it uses a different way of stating what God’s Word is: “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). When placed together, God’s Word—the Bible—is revealed to be a lamp of light, identically defined as truth.

The one thing blind people do not see is any light. Their world is pitch black! We read from II Corinthians 4:4 that the devil has blinded the world.

The apostle John records additional insight into the natural tendency of human nature in every person to actually choose darkness over light, as well as why they do this. Read—and believe—these verses: “This is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest [obvious for what they are, good or bad], that they are wrought in God” (3:19-21).

At the outset, it was explained how prophecy is a light shining in a dark world. Upon completion of the book you carry the authority to flip the switch back to darkness. After all, extreme punishment is not yet visible on the horizon for the majority. And most are too lazy and comfortable to exercise their mind’s eye.

The Role of Ministers
This volume could scarcely say enough about the role of the ministers of this world and their effect on listeners. These millions of ministers have openly defied God and taught that it is permissible to break His Law. Rather than feeding people true understanding, ministers today feed their congregants falsehoods and fatten themselves with offerings that result from “feel good” sermons. They do not tell people to repent of evil ways, but rather, in net effect, to continue in them and “all will be well.”

Notice more of their message: “They say ‘still’ unto them that despise Me [by being disobedient], theLord has said, You shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walks after the imagination of his own heart [lives a life of sin], No evil shall come upon you” (Jer. 23:17).

God does not take sin, or deception about it, lightly. He abhors both. Notice Ezekiel 34:1-31, Eze 34:2-3: “Thus says the Lord God unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?” And Ezekiel 13:22: “Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life.”

Ministers of professing Christianity promise those practicing sin that they can expect to receive eternal life! This is contrary to God’s Word, and He will require they answer for it. “Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed My people; you have scattered My flock, and driven them away, and have not visited [cared for] them [by teaching them to obey God]: behold, I will visit upon you [false ministers] the evil of your doings, says the Lord” (Jer. 23:2).

Any sampling of sermons given by the professing Christian ministers of this world’s false Christianity include a liberal mentioning of “God’s mercy” and “kindness” and especially “love” for “mankind” or for “you.” They are never truly corrective, nor do they contain rebukes for wrong conduct. Why, for instance, do they largely ignore passages such as “Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God” (Rom. 11:22).

Why do they never speak about how God’s love requires Him to punish for disobedience? But disobedience to what?—the very law that these same ministers refuse to tell people is binding upon all peoples today! The ministers of this world have been derelict in their duty of warning that sin brings consequences—none of them good!

Understand. If there were no transgression of God’s Law—there could come no punishment! Widespread and ever-worsening sin directly causes the death of 9 out of 10 human beings alive today! Only one tenth of humanity will survive the Tribulation and Day of the Lord. Make yourself focus on this until your head pounds! The culmination of end-time events will result in the loss of 90 percent of humanity!

Again, why the coming horror?—why the fulfilment of dreadful prophecies?: “Wherefore, as I live, says the Lord God; surely, because you have defiled My sanctuary with all your detestable things, and with all your abominations, therefore will I also diminish you...” (Ezek. 5:11).

Sin is the reason! God reveals sin is the cause of the horrific chastisement to come. We now leave Israel for the subject of world punishment.

“A Controversy with All Flesh”
The prophet Micah shows that God’s punishment, after dealing with America and Britain, moves to inclusion of all nations: “And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury [the Day of the Lord] upon the heathen, such as they have not heard” (Eze 5:15).

Mind-numbing terror, springing from international chaos, lies just beyond the view of leaders, nations and billions of people hurtling toward disaster. Every continent, nation and tribe of Earth will be sucked into the vortex of what must occur because of the wretchedness, violence, corruption, degeneration, war, strife and oppression practiced worldwide.

God cares about all human beings—and the entirety of humanity has ignored Him and rejected His ways and laws. While Israel was taught and understood these laws more personally, all nations, starting at Creation with Adam and Eve in the Garden, have also disobeyed the true God. But it has been God’s intention from Creation to fashion every human being in His own character and likeness (Gen. 1:26). This is why Paul was commissioned to preach the gospel to Gentile nations.

Jeremiah expands on what Micah prophesied. Few verses are more sobering: “A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the Lord has a controversy with the nations, He will plead with all flesh…” (Jer 25:31). Since all Gentile peoples—“the heathen”—are also God’s children, His love for them requires He also punish non-Israelite countries.

Ultimately, every nation must learn to submit to the wonderful government of God. Every nation must come to recognize that God’s Way brings supreme happiness and joy! Every person on Earth must see personal application of that Way.

Jer 25:31 shows that God first “pleads” with those He is about to punish. This pleading to “all flesh” includes a warning of exactly what will follow if they do not listen. Our books and other publications, reaching every country on Earth, are God’s patient pleading with humanity before time runs out and this occurs: “…He will give them that are wicked to the sword…Thus says the Lord of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth” (Jer 25:31-32).
