Sin's Origin

1. First Sin
2. Future Generations

Where The First Sin Came From God is good and God made everything good. That includes the first human beings, Adam and Eve. Everything on earth was good and wonderful but then something bad and tragic happened.

And the LORD God commanded the man, (Adam) saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." And he (the devil) said to the woman, (Eve) "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.' Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. "For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden." Genesis 2:16-17 , Gen 3:1-8

Adam and Eve listened to the devil and allowed sin to come into their life. The devil tempted Adam and Eve with a lie and they believed it. He told Adam and Eve that they did not need God...that they could control their own life to do anything they wanted without God's interference.

Adam and Eve learned the hard way. They listened to the devil and became sinners. They turned their back to God and disobeyed His commandment. Since that time every human being has listened to the devil to disobey God. In so doing we have all become sinners just like Adam and Eve.

The tragic consequence of our decision is to be separated from God and to come under the control of the devil. That's why there are so many problems on earth...sin and satan are in control of too many rebellious human beings. The devil did not tell Adam and Eve that he would control their life if they listened to him. The devil did not tell Adam and Eve that sin would separate them from God and all His goodness. The devil does not reveal these things to ignorant mortals nor does he reveal how sin will ruin our life...and our eternity.

The Bible teaches...

When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. His sin spread death throughout all the world, so everything began to grow old and die, for all sinned....What a contrast between Adam and Christ who was yet to come! And what a difference between man's sin and God's forgiveness! For this one man, Adam, brought death to many through his sin. But this one man, Jesus Christ, brought forgiveness to many through God's mercy. Adam's one sin brought the penalty of death to many, while Christ freely takes away many sins and gives glorious life instead... Yes, Adam's sin brought punishment to all, but Christ's righteousness makes men right with God, so that they can live. Adam caused many to be sinners because he disobeyed God, and Christ caused many to be made acceptable to God because He obeyed... Before, sin ruled over all men and brought them to death, but now God's kindness rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:12-21

Every person is tempted to commit sin but being tempted does not make you a bad person. Even Jesus, when He was on earth, was tempted by the devil. The difference was, Jesus did not listen to the devil's temptation. Jesus did not sin even though he was tempted to do so. Jesus was the only person ever born who did not commit sin. The good news is, that although you and I are tempted to commit things against the will and law of God, we can overcome satan's temptations...with the help of God...if we ask Him.

"Happy is the man who doesn't give in and do wrong when he is tempted, for afterwards he will get as his reward the crown of life that God has promised those who love him. And remember, when someone wants to do wrong it is never God who is tempting him, for God never wants to do wrong and never tempts anyone else to do it. Temptation is the pull of man's own evil thoughts and wishes. These evil thoughts lead to evil actions and afterwards to the death penalty from God. So don't be misled, dear brothers. But whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God, the Creator of all light, and he shines forever without change or shadow..." James 1:12-18

Sin causes a lot of problems for our human family. There is nothing good that can be said about sin. Satan is the origin of sin. He tempts us by appealing to the "lusts" of our flesh.
