Settling for the Things of God

Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh asked Moses if they could remain on the plains of Moab on the east side of the Jordan River. They wanted to settle there with their families and livestock.

The land they desired falls within the limits of the land of promise. But their readiness to remain while the Ark and the priesthood went forward reveals that their heart was not with God. They were ready to settle down and enjoy what had been gained. The Ark, the Tabernacle, the Glory of the Shechinah was not that important in their thinking.

So it is today. There are numerous Christians who desire the things of God. However there is not within them the holy fire that craves to dwell in the heart of God where the Lord Jesus abides. They have little passion for holiness, for the Consuming Fire of Israel.

After seeing all of the marvels of God's Presence in the wilderness, Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh still esteemed their cows more important than the Divine Glory!

Can you imagine? Yet we see this today where people are taken up with their hope of an ornate mansion in Paradise. To reside with Jesus where He is in the center of the Fire of God's holy Presence is quite secondary in their vision of the future.

There are supernatural manifestations today in some churches. We trust they are of the Holy Spirit. The question is, are people desiring delicious emotional and spiritual experiences or are they seeking the Lord Jesus Christ because they love Him? Are they looking for excitement or looking for the Lord?

We are not permitted to settle down and live with the memory of our religious experiences. We are required to march with the Body of Christ until all the members of the royal priesthood have gained their inheritance.

How do you feel about this?
