Satan's Titles

The titles that the Bible uses for satan reveals much of his character and activities. Here are some of the more famous titles....
Adversary…
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1 Peter 5:8
Accuser…
"And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." Rev 12:10
Enemy…
"The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels." Matthew 13:39
father of lies…and murderer…
"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." John 8:44
Tempter…
"And when the tempter (devil) came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread." Matthew 4:3
"For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter (devil) have tempted you, and our labor be in vain." 1 Thes 3:5
Unclean spirit…
"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation." Matthew 12:43-45
Wicked one…
"When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side." Matthew 13:19
"The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one" Matthew 13:38
This should be enough to convince us that satan is anything but our best buddy. That's the bad news. The good news is…satan's power and threats are limited…his authority restricted. He can only dictate to those who allow him access to their lives. His kingdom includes only those who bow to his leadership.
"He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:8
"In whom the god of this world (satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." 2 Corinthians 4:4
"Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience" Ephesians 2:2
