Rest in Jesus

Back to Comfort for Christians

Rest in Jesus
"Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens — and I will give you rest!" Matthew 11:28
Is your poor body restless from disease and suffering, and your mind disturbed by trouble and sorrow? Poor restless sufferer, Jesus speaks to you!
Perhaps your physician cannot give you rest, and your family has tried in vain. Perhaps Christian friends have tried to soothe your troubled spirit — but all have failed. Listen as Jesus speaks to you. He says, "I will give your rest."
Jesus alone can give rest to your anguished spirit; and He will do so freely — if you come to Him. He will give such sweet rest to your spirit — that you will be able to bear the sufferings of your body with patience and comparative ease. For when the soul is comforted, refreshed, and fed by Jesus — the pains of the body become lighter and are much more easily borne.
Come to Jesus, then. Come to Him as to a faithful friend. Come to Him as to a kind, loving Saviour who sympathizes with you and promises to give you rest. Come, and lay your whole case before Him. Come, and plead with Him. Come, and believe His precious promises. Ask Him — and expect Him to make it good.
Thousands on the bed of sickness and thousands in deep trouble and sorrow, have found rest in Jesus — such rest that they are willing to continue to suffer, if only they can still enjoy the same.
It is the precious promise of a most precious Saviour: "I will give you rest!" Oh, for faith to believe it and to carry it to Jesus — so that He may honor it and make it good in our experience!
Lord, work faith in my poor, burdened heart — so that I may come to Jesus and enjoy His rest in my soul.
"Only we who believe, can enter His rest!" Hebrews 4:3
