Felt helplessness & utter ruin

Back to Next Part Man's religion & God's religion 2

We have to be effectually stripped of all our own wisdom, strength, and righteousness, that Christ may be experimentally and feelingly our all in all.

But O what stripping do we need to pull away the rags of self-righteousness which cleave so closely to us! What hard labour to wear us out of all our own strength, and exhaust us of our own wisdom!

What discovery after discovery of our wretched and miserable inability is needed to bring us down to that spot of felt helplessness and utter ruin, in which Christ becomes our all in all.
