Eating God’s Word

The "faith Walk" or "Christian Walk" is a way of living. It is something we do 7 days a week! And at times it's very helpful to use illustrations in the physical world to help us to understand how things work in the spiritual world, so that we can walk the "Faith Walk" effectively in our daily lives. Since most people are familiar with the importance of eating properly in the natural world let us, see what we can learn from this about eating properly in the spiritual world?

PHYSICAL MAN

Let us examine some things from the physical side first. Every human being on the earth came into this world as a physical baby. And every baby, male or female, (all things being equal), was born with the same set of physical muscles. Now depending on how healthy and strong these physical muscles are will determine how much that individual will accomplish in the physical world. In other words, a physical weakling will not accomplish near as much as one who is healthy and strong physically.

EAT A BALANCED DIET

Now, in order to be healthy and strong physically, you must eat a balanced diet of physical food. Your body cannot live on spiritual food (at least not for very long). You cannot grow to be strong just drinking milk all your life. Sooner or later you must begin eating meat or solid food. You must eat or chew the food and get that physical food into your physical body where the food can be converted into energy and used to develop your physical muscles properly. So that food must be chewed, for it will do no good left setting on your plate. Moreover, it must be a balanced diet.

EXERCISE

In addition to eating a balanced diet, the individual must also exercise those physical muscles. If he does not exercise those muscles, he can eat three "square! Meals a day and end up with big, soft, squishy flab, having no physical strength. Therefore, it is essential that physical muscle be exercised or there will be no strong muscles.

IT'S UP TO YOU

All things being equal, male or female, it's up to you as to how strong you want to be in your physical body. It is all in direct proportion to how well you eat and how much you exercise.

SPIRIT MAN

The Word of God reveals to us that we are beings created in God's own image (Gen 1:26, John 4:24, 1 Thes 5:23). In other words, I am a spirit, I have a soul and I live in a physical body. The soulish area includes the mind, will and emotions.

Now, when I'm born again, by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord, the real me - the spirit man on side the physical body - is recreated by the Holy Spirit (Romans 10:9-10, Rev 3:20, 2 Cor 5:17, John 3:3). I have been taken from Satan's family, and brought over into God's family. I no longer have Satan's nature of sin and death, but I now have God's nature of life and love! (Col 1:13

I am now a spiritual baby that needs to grow and mature spiritually (1 Cor 3:1, 1 Peter 2:2). In addition, I now have a set of the God-kind of "faith muscles" that every spirit man receives when he is born again. In other words, every man, woman and child that is born again receives the same "measure" of faith or the same set of "faith muscles." Faith is the spirit man's muscles and it is necessary to have strong, healthy faith in order to walk in the spirit victoriously! It is understood that a "spiritual weakling" will have a defeated spiritual life which will result in a defeated life in the natural realm as well.

EAT A BALANCED DIET

In order to be healthy and strong spiritually you must eat a balanced diet of spiritual food. Your spirit cannot live on physical food, because your spirit man, must have food made up of the same substance that it is made up of, just as the physical man needs to have food made up of the same substance that he is made up of.

And that spiritual food is the Word of God. God's Word is frequently referred to as milk and meat (solid food) (Matt 4:4, 1 Cor.3:2, 1 Peter 2:2, Heb.5:12-14). As in the physical body, that spirit man must have a balanced diet of spiritual food. He cannot live on milk alone. A spirit man cannot be fed just "milk" or salvation scripture all the time and expect to be healthy spiritually.

He must eat solid food (meat) which would include such subjects as love, holiness, commitment and a disciplined life.

However, how in the world do you "eat" or "chew" the Word of God, which is spiritual food for the spirit man? Well, we know that faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom.10:7). And, when a person hears about salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ, He is born again and given the measure of faith.

We all start out with the same "measure of faith" or "faith muscles." Now we have to develop that faith or cause it to become strong. In addition, the way we cause our faith to grow is by confessing the Word of God because faith comes be hearing the Word of God! (Joshua 1:8and Romans 10:17

It's interesting to note that the word meditation in
Joshua 1:8 also means "talk to yourself therein day and night of the Word of God"! So talk the Word of God day and night and your faith will grow. However, the word "meditation" in Joshua 1:8 also means to "chew the cud" (like a cow chews its cud). So, by confessing the Word of God, you are actually chewing or eating the Word of God. And that's how you get God's Word, which is spiritual food, into your spirit man to cause the spirit man's faith muscles to grow and also produce spiritual energy or force called "faith"! But remember that the spiritual food you chew from God's Word must be a balanced diet of milk and meat!
