Adam and Eve

They did not consider the beautiful surroundings in which the Lord had placed them. They permitted doubt concerning the obvious goodness of God to enter their mind and influence their actions.

What could Eve have done? The Lord was nearby in the garden. She could have gone to Him and asked if He had changed His mind about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, if it really would make her wise and if such wisdom would bring love, joy, and peace to her. Instead she permitted the serpent to take her crown of life and righteousness.

Now the whole creation was thrown off course. Man was trying to be his own master. The original problem, and the source of all other problems, was not murder, robbery, drunkenness, or profanity. The problem was man seeking his own gain instead of looking to the Lord.
