3:16-17 (A) Who or what is the Temple of God?
The term Temple of God is used metaphorically in scripture of believers, individually and collectively, whose bodies are the dwelling places of the Holy Spirit (CP Ro 8:9 with 1Cor 6:19 and 2Cor 6:14-16).
Paul is addressing believers collectively - the church - as the Temple of God in 1Cor 3:16-17 (CP V9 with Eph 2:19-22; He 3:6; 1Pe 2:5; 4:17). See also comments on 1Cor 2:7-8 and 3:8-10.
