(cp Lk 2:25-33) Marvelled here means to be struck with wonder and admiration. Simeon had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die till he had seen the Messiah.
When he saw Jesus he knew that he was looking at Messiah and his proclamation that Jesus was to bring salvation to the Gentiles as well as to the Jews amazed Mary and Joseph, because although they had been told that Jesus would be Messiah, they had not comprehended the scope of His ministry - that it would be to the entire world, not only to Israel (cp Rev 7:9).
