The word {kinnor,} in Chaldee, {kinnora,} in Syraic, {kainoro,} in Arabic, {kinnarat,} and in Greek certainly denotes a harp, played on with the hand, according to 1 Sa 16:23.

The number of strings in the harp was at first three; but afterwards they were increased to four, and at last to seven.
