The writer is quoting the Old Testament prophet Haggai here (CP Hag 2:6-7).
We learn from this that the present form of heaven and earth is not eternal.
They will be completely destroyed by fire and replaced by a new heaven and earth.
This will take place at the time of the great white throne judgement at the end of the millennium - the thousand years reign of Christ (CP He 1:10-12; 2Pe 3:7, 10-13; Rev 20:11; 21:1).
The only thing that will survive in its present form will be the kingdom of God (CP He 12:27-28).
