10 What does a Lampstand symbolize?

In the Scriptures, gold typifies Divinity, and oil represents the Holy Spirit of God. Wood represents what is human. Some scholars believe the Lampstand of the Congregation portrays Christ as the Light of the world, the testimony of God’s Person, will, and ways.

The Ark of the Covenant also portrays Christ. Because God’s King is both Son of God and Son of Man there is wood in the Ark of the Covenant.

However, in that which bears witness of God, of His Person, of His will, of His ways, there is to be no "wood"—nothing of human origin.

The Lampstand of the Tabernacle of the Congregation was solid gold. It represents Christ, the Anointed One of God, the Person who possesses the Spirit of God without measure, the Begotten of God who is the Light (and the only true light) of the world.

The oil of the Lampstand portrays the Holy Spirit who Himself is the Christing. It is the Spirit who alone gives the true witness of the Father.
