10:28 Who is He who can destroy both soul and body in hell?

A great many Christians believe the devil is referred to here, but that is not correct. God is the only one who can destroy both soul and body in hell (cp Rev 20:11-15).

In Mt 10:28 Jesus is contrasting the fear of man which might lead Christians to deny Christ for fear of persecution, and the fear of God whose power is infinite in extent, and whom we should dread to displease (cp Mt 10:1-33, 39).
