The blessing of Christian giving (2Co 9:6-15)

God takes notice of the way Christians give, and if they give generously he rewards them generously. People should decide thoughtfully the amount they should give, then give it joyfully (2Co 9:6-7).

They need not fear poverty if they give much, because God is able to increase his supply to ensure that generous givers still have more than they need (2Co 9:8-10; cf. Prov 11:24).

The threefold result of true giving is that the poor are helped, the givers are blessed, and God is glorified in thanksgiving (2Co 9:11-12).

The giving of the Corinthians will prove the genuineness of their faith. It will also join givers and receivers together in fellowship in Christ, who is the greatest gift of all, the gift given by God himself (2Co 9:13-15).

The Corinthians responded to Paul’s appeal. Later, when he was in Corinth, he wrote to the Romans saying, ‘At present I am going to Jerusalem with aid for the saints, for Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. They were pleased to do it . . .’ (Rom 15:25-27).
