"The hypocrite's hope shall perish." Job 8:13

The hope of the hypocrite is any hope based upon self—whatever shape or form self may assume.

The hope of the hypocrite is—any expectation that God will reward you for your good works—any hope that He will be merciful to you because you have not been so bad as others—any hope that by the exertion of your own strength and wisdom you may some day be in a better position to die than you are now—any hope based upon a mere profession of truth without a feeling experience of its power—any hope that stands upon the good opinion of others, and does not rest upon the testimony of the Spirit of God within.

In a word, every hope which is not lodged by the breath of God in the heart, is the hope of the hypocrite.
