The Great Deception 4

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. (I Timothy 4:12-16)

We have to diligently and energetically apply our will to the task of cooperating with the Holy Spirit each day, in the meanwhile reading our Bible, praying, attending the assembling of fervent believers, seeking the gifts and ministries of the Spirit, giving, serving, and doing all else the New Testament commands.

Are we saving ourselves in so doing? Yes, we are. Not in the sense of improving on the blood atonement made by the Lord on the cross of Calvary but in the sense of working out our own salvation with fear and trembling. We must energetically lay hold on eternal life. By seeking the Lord with all our might we save ourselves and those who hear us, as Paul exhorted Timothy.

The New Testament does not accept a passive, Jesus does it all approach to salvation. We must present our body a living sacrifice. We must put to death the deeds of our body. We must purify ourselves, putting aside our carnal nature with its passions and demands.

It is taught currently there is no great reward for keeping the commandments of Christ and His Apostles and there is no great penalty for not keeping the commandments of Christ and His Apostles. Since both positions are completely against the teaching of the New Testament, where do you suppose they came from? How do they affect the determination of the Christian to seek the Lord?

"Oh but people who believe in the Lord will behave righteously because that is the right thing to do. You don't have to lure them with the hope of a special reward and you don't have to frighten them with talk about the outer darkness."

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.

Thus we are wiser than God.

Look at the Christian assemblings of today. They are filled with gossip, slander, lust, pride, arrogance, self-seeking, deceit, dishonesty, drunkenness, sorcery, vanity, haughtiness, competition, the love of money, anger, strife, party loyalties, accusations, worldliness, criticism, ignorance of the Lord and His ways, adultery, fornication, addiction to pornography.

"Brother Thompson, have you been peeking at our church?"

Yes.

The Christian churches fall into this cesspool in every generation until God sends a revival of repentance. But more than revival is needed. The believers must rise up and rebuke the Evangelical teaching of grace. It must be addressed as the lie it is. Otherwise all the revivals in the world are not going to bring lasting change.
