'''Introduction'''

by Tom Stewart

Since all believers are responsible to share their faith with others, every Christian needs a clear understanding of the plan of salvation. This is especially true for new babes in Christ.
+
"Jesus answered them, and said, My Doctrine is not Mine, but His that sent Me" (John 7:16).

The following short presentation of the gospel is designed to reinforce the key issues and provide a tool for presenting the gospel to others as new Christians begin their walk down the road of life as Christians.

''God's Plan of Salvation'''
+
Any honest hearted Christian should be able to say with the LORD Jesus, " My Doctrine is not Mine, but His that sent Me" (John 7:16). In other words, our Doctrine is what we believe God has given us. That means we will have to grow and change our Doctrine, as God grows and changes us. "But grow in Grace, and in the knowledge of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ" (2Peter 3:18). Doctrine is one of those words that often puts people on edge, as if they may be forced to mindlessly parrot things they do not understand, much less believe. However, "Good Doctrine" (Proverbs 4:2) is the teaching that God gives to us from His Word. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for Doctrine [Greek, didaskalia, teaching, learning, instruction, precepts], for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2Timothy 3:16).

1 John 5:11-12 And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
+
Man may be the intermediary that transmits the Doctrine to us, but God does not expect us to accept, believe, or practice it, unless we have been persuaded by His Spirit that it came from Him. "20 But ye have an Unction [Greek, chrisma, anointing] from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the Truth, but because ye know It, and that no lie is of the Truth. 27 But the Anointing [Greek, chrisma, unction] which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same Anointing [Greek, chrisma, unction] teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie, and even as It hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him" (1John 2:20-21, 27). Our willingness or voluntariness is pivotal in the learning of Good Doctrine, for He expects us to be willing to do His Will before He will teach us the meaning of His Doctrine. Jesus said, "If any man will do His will [literally, is willing to do His Will], he shall know of the Doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of Myself" (John 7:17).

While 1 John 5:11-12 is written to Christians to give them assurance of their salvation based on the testimony of God's Word, this passage also highlights the key issue in salvation.
+
<big>Good Doctrine, Good Practice</big>

God's Declaration to Man: "And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son." (verse 11).
+
It is a legitimate concern of God that His people will maintain Good Doctrine, for Good Doctrine is essential for Good Practice. "19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen" (Matthew 28:19-20). Throughout the history of the people of God, we can see a pattern of Truth discovered, lived, perpetuated, lost, miserably lost, forgotten, then rediscovered, only for the process to be repeated again. What a joy to see Judah's King Jehoshaphat understand the Doctrine of Faith, then trust the LORD, only to emerge victorious-- without any human effort-- over a vastly superior, invading enemy! "12 O our God, wilt Thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon Thee.

The Important Issue: "He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life." (verse 12).

 +
20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe His prophets, so shall ye prosper. 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

'''This passage teaches:'''
+
24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the Earth, and none escaped" (2Chronicles 20:12, 20, 22, 24). Good King Hezekiah's son, Manasseh-- later called by Biblical historians the Nero of Palestine-- assumed the throne from his father. Quickly, he did evil, forgetting the Covenants and Doctrines of the LORD. "2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. 9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel" (2Kings 21:2, 9).

God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son, Jesus Christ.
+
God, in His mercy, motivated Esarhaddon, King of Assyria to conquer, imprison, and afflict Manasseh, which in turn, caused Manasseh to humble himself into heartfelt submission to the Living God! "11 Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. 12 And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, 13 And prayed unto Him: and He was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD He was God" (2Chronicles 33:11-13).

The way to possess eternal life is to possess God's Son.
+
And, we become elated when we read that another Saint of God was successful in reviving the cause of the Everlasting God and the Doctrine of Obedience, when King Josiah tore down the images of Baal, restored the worship of the Temple, and rediscovered the Book of the Law of God. "8 And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 10 And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king. 11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he rent his clothes.

Two important questions must be asked and answered:
+
13 Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us" (2Kings 22:8, 10, 11, 13). "And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers" (2Chronicles 34:33).

Why is possession of God's Son necessary to have eternal life?

How can a person possess or have the Son of God?

The Problem of Man's Separation From God

According to Romans 5:8, God demonstrated His love for us through the death of His Son. Why did Christ have to die for us? Because Scripture declares all men to be sinful. We are all sinners. To "sin" means to miss the mark. The Bible declares we have all sinned and fall short of the glory (the perfect holiness) of God. In other words, our sin separates us from God who is perfect holiness (righteousness and justice) and God must therefore judge sinful man.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God …

Habakkuk 1:13a Thine eyes are too pure to approve evil, And Thou canst not look on wickedness with favour.

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.

'''The Problem of the Futility of Man's Works'''

Scripture also teaches that no amount of human goodness, human works, human morality, or religious activity can gain acceptance with God or get anyone into heaven. The moral man, the religious man, and the immoral and non-religious are all in the same boat. They all fall short of the glory of God (God's perfect righteousness). After discussing the immoral man, the moral man, and the religious man in Romans 1:18-3:8, the apostle Paul declares that both Jews and Greeks are under sin, that "there is none righteous, not even one" (Rom. 3:9-10), and that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23).

'''Added to this are the declarations of the following verses of Scripture:'''

Ephesians 2:8-9 <br/>For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;<br/> 9 not as a result of works, that no one should boast.

Titus 3:5-7 <br/>He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,<br/> 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,<br/> 7 that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Romans 4:1-5<br/> What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?<br/> 2  For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about; but not before God.<br/> 3 For what does the Scripture say? "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness."<br/> 4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not reckoned as a favour, but as what is due.<br/> 5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,

No amount of human goodness is as good as God. God is infinite or perfect righteousness. Because of this, Habakkuk 1:13 tells us He cannot have fellowship with anyone who does not have perfect righteousness. In order to be accepted by God, we must be as good as God is. Before God, we all stand naked, helpless, and hopeless in ourselves. No amount of good living will get us to heaven or give us eternal life. What then is the solution?

'''God's Solution for Man's Problem'''

God is not only perfect holiness (whose holy character we can never attain to on our own or by our works of righteousness) but He is also perfect love and full of grace and mercy. Because of His love and grace, He has not left us without hope and a solution.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

This is the Good News of the Bible-the message of the gospel. It's the message of the gift of God's own Son who became man (the God-man), lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sin, and was raised from the grave proving both the fact He is God's Son and the value of His death for us as our substitute.

Romans 1:4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,

Romans 4:25 He who was delivered up because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.

2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

'''The All-Important Question'''

How then do we receive God's Son that we may cross the gulf and have the eternal life God has promised us? What becomes the issue for us today?

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, {even} to those who believe in His name.

John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Because of what Jesus Christ accomplished for us on the cross, the Bible states "He that has the Son has life." We can receive the Son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior by personal faith, by trusting in the person of Christ and His death for our sins.

This means we must each come to God the same way-as a sinner who recognizes his sinfulness, repudiates any form of human works for salvation, and relies totally on Christ alone by faith alone for our salvation.

If you would like to receive and trust Christ as your personal Savior, you may want to express your faith in Christ by a simple prayer such as this:

Dear God, I know I'm a sinner and that nothing I do can gain heaven or eternal life. I believe Jesus Christ died for me and rose from the grave. Right now I receive Him as my personal Savior by trusting in Him alone as my only way to heaven. Thank you for giving me eternal life through faith in your Son. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Or, On the Importance of Maintaining Sound Doctrine

by Tom Stewart

"Jesus answered them, and said, My Doctrine is not Mine, but His that sent Me" (John 7:16).

Preface

Good Doctrine, Good Practice

And Shaphan read it before the king. 11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he rent his clothes.

Pin.png7 FACTS About UNCLEAN MEAT You Probably Didn't Know !!!

Many Christian churches teach that it's alright to eat pork and other animals that the Bible identifies as unclean. They say that Jesus cleansed all meat and that the dietary restrictions against unclean meat is not part of the New Covenant. They say it was only for the Jews. But is that true? Find out by watching this video!

Do you have a ministry or a business

Do you have a called of God ministry where your whole purpose is to "feed the sheep", and God supplies your needs, or do you have books, tapes, videos, etc. that you SELL for a "donation", or just outright SELL, and your buyers supply your needs?

There is nothing wrong with being in business and selling things. However, if you are a church or any kind of "ministry", you may want to check your motive for how you are conducting the work of the Lord.

Remember the money changers in the temple where JESUS turned over the tables and threw them out. They were selling things in the "CHURCH".
(God made it quite clear to us that we were not to charge for anything, that HE is our source.)
