The work and ministry of sermonindex can be encapsulated in this one word: REVIVAL. sermonindex is not a organisation, business, or any attempt by man to build something for God. It is rather a expression of a heart burden to see the Church revived and brought back to holiness, purity, and power with God. "The mission of SermonIndex is the preservation and propogation of classical vintage preaching and the promotion of genuine biblical revival to this generation."

==The Truth about Divorce, Part 1 (Mark 10:1-12) John MacArthur==

We are going to address the subject of divorce because it is the theme of our Lord's teaching in Mark chapter 10...Mark chapter 10. We're going to be looking at the twelve verses that launch this chapter and it's going to be in two parts, one this morning and another one next Sunday. So I'm going to let you know that so that you're not wondering why I haven't gotten to all of the issues that relate to this theme. I'm unable to do that until next Sunday and we'll finish up this text next Sunday morning. And then next Sunday evening, I'm going to add a special message on the issue of divorce from 1 Corinthians chapter 7. That will give you the full picture of what the Scripture teaches about divorce. We've also put a little notice in Grace Today about the book, The Divorce Dilemma, which is a handy guide to take you through the Scripture to help you understand these issues.

It was about 25 years ago in my life that I was asked to write a little book and the original title of that little book was Focus on Fact, you've probably never seen it, it didn't last very long. It came out in another edition with another title a couple of years later and that title was Why I Trust The Bible, it was 1983. And as I was preparing to write that book about why I trust the Bible, which is really what the first one was about as well, I had to answer the question why did I trust the Bible. What was it about the truth of Scripture that made it believable to me? Was I smarter than everybody else? Had I been presented a more powerful set of evidences about Scripture? And certainly such can be presented. Why did I have such immense confidence in the Bible?

1 Timothy 2:12-15 (New American Standard Bible)

12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.

13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.

14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.

The Truth about Divorce, Part 1 (Mark 10:1-12) John MacArthur

We're in Mark chapter 10, The Truth About Divorce. Now if you ask the question, how does God view divorce? There is a short answer. The short answer is given by God Himself in Malachi, the last prophecy at the end of your Old Testament, chapter 2 verse 16 where God says, "I hate divorce... I hate divorce." That is God's attitude toward a widely accepted, extremely popular and time-honored institution in human society...God hates divorce....

Why We Believe While Others Reject (1 Corinthians 1:18-2:16)

I can remember in my college days when very little appealed to me other than an athletic event. When I found my greatest joy on a football field, that even then I had complete confidence in the Word of God. I actually couldn't wait to get to seminary. And when I decided that I would give up an athletic career and opportunity on a professional level to go off to seminary, some of my athletes, athletic friends and coaches, couldn't understand the reason. And it really wasn't that I had a drive to preach or a drive to teach. I had this compelling longing to dig into the Word of God and understand what it means because I was unequivocally committed to its truthfulness. Where did that come from? Why was I so convinced of the truth of Scripture? I hadn't studied apologetics or defenses of Scripture. I hadn't read a lot of that. There was just in my heart a complete commitment to the Word of God.

And when I sat down to think about why I trusted the Bible, I looked at some passages of Scripture that came into play. I remembered that Jesus had said to Peter in Matthew 16, "Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven." And that the reason that Peter knew that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, was because of divine disclosure, divine revelation. And then I looked at 1 Corinthians chapter 12 and verse 3 which says, "No man can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Spirit of God." It is reasonable to me to say that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. It is reasonable to me to say Jesus is Lord. But no one can say that as reasonable as it now appears to me to be unless the Father discloses it and the Spirit reveals it....

Why Sunday Is the Lord's Day (Selected Scriptures) John MacArthur

It's good to be back to open the Word of God.

When I'm not here I miss being in the church profoundly. And I try my best to find some experience that will substitute for Grace Church. When I was confined at home and I couldn't really go anywhere, which is pretty much been the way it has worked out since surgery, I was sort of left to either have a member of my family set up a computer so that I could get the audio from Grace which I absolutely loved and didn't happen often enough for me. But on those other occasions, I found myself trying to find something on television that would fill in. And that was a very difficult challenge.

I want you to know that the Scripture in my mind is profound. It is just profound. It is unsearchably rich. It is deep. As to excel all ideas, all philosophies, all opinions, all insights by all human beings put together. And yet I found it almost impossible to find anybody who would just mind the depths of Scripture.

Opinions, plenty of them. Insights, plenty of them. But it was almost impossible to find someone who understood the beauty and loftiness of Scripture. Superficial preaching betrays a weak view of Scripture, a superficial understanding of its great, great treasures. So it's good to be here and it's good to be with those I love and by whom I'm loved here at Grace Church....

What to Look for in a Pastor (Selected Scriptures)

I want to come to you, maybe on a little more personal level if I can in this session. When you get to be my age, you can kind of do whatever you want I guess, and I just want to talk to you a little bit from my heart.

I understand the spiritual battle with sin. I understand that, because I've lived it for a long, long time. I understand how difficult it is to live a holy life. I understand how difficult it is to maintain pure thoughts, holy thoughts, God exalting, Christ honoring thoughts. I understand how difficult it is to guard your tongue; to not say unkind things, hurtful things, sarcastic things, painful things. I understand that you lose that battle. You lose all those battles through the years.

I understand how difficult it is to be godly, the most intimate environment of your life, in your marriage, with the wife you love and cherish, with your children, with the people that are closest to you. I understand what it is to disappoint the Lord, and to bear the sadness of your own soul over those disappointments that are frequent, tragically. I understand what it is to live in Romans 7, and to do what I don't want to do and not do what I want to do.

I understand what it is to be involved in sins of overt action and sins of covert action. I understand what it is to sin by not doing the thing that you ought to have done, by leaving great and needful and righteous things undone, while you preoccupy yourself with trivial things. I understand the spiritual battle. I've lived it. I've lived long enough to try to help other people fight this fight as well....
