The epistle to the Romans is so important for Christians to understand because it contains the most reasoned, consistent, and systematic presentation of the gospel in the whole of scripture. 

A good understanding of Romans ensures one a better understanding of the rest of scripture as far as doctrine is concerned. 

This is not to say that the book of Romans is more important than any other book of the Bible, but because it is primarily a work of doctrine, it is the very foundation of church teaching. Its teachings are applicable to all Christians for all times. 

Most Bible scholars agree that the book of Romans is the foundation of all New Testament teaching.
