Notice how Joshua dealt with the Amorite kings:

Notice how Joshua dealt with the Amorite kings:

And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah. And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah. And Joshua said, Roll great stones unto the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to keep them: (Joshua 10:16-18)

And after other victories had been won:

Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth those five kings unto me out of the cave. And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.

And it came to pass, when they brought forth those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the chiefs of the men of war that went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them. (Joshua 10:22-24)

The above would be an illustration of someone who kept resisting a "king" in their personality until Jesus came and destroyed it.

So it is a real fight against the enemy. Jesus has come to us in the third day of redemption and is guiding and enabling us until we are totally free from all the chains of Satan.

We may never have thought complete deliverance would be possible while we are on the earth. But complete deliverance from Satan is what the Bible teaches. Whether we are in Heaven or on the earth has nothing to do with it. Sin came to the earth from Heaven!

If we have been utterly sincere in confessing, passing judgment, and resisting it, the unclean spirit will lessen its grip on us. We have passed an eternal judgment on it.

We never are to fear the demons or the greatest of the lords of darkness. Through Christ, the Spirit of God will give us total victory over all of them.

The great trials which your eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought you out. So shall the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

Moreover, the Lord your God will send the hornet against them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you perish. You shall not dread them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.

The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, for the wild beasts would grow too numerous for you.

But the Lord your God will deliver them before you, and will throw them into great confusion until they are destroyed.

He will deliver their kings into your hand so that you will make their name perish from under heaven; no man will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them. (Deuteronomy 7:19-24—NASB)

Does the passage above sound like God wants the enemy completely destroyed?

Notice above that God delivers us a little bit at a time. God permits nations that later would be destroyed to remain in us. These nations, although they are not godly, will help us fend off enemies of immediate concern. Later we will be able to walk in complete freedom from all enemies.

For instance, we may have a fear of not having enough money to pay our bills. This fear may cause us to work hard and not get siphoned off into pursuits of the flesh that are unprofitable.

When God is certain we will not be drawn off into activities that are harmful to us, He will help us throw off the fear of economic insecurity.

There may be believers who will attempt to use the principle of sinful bondages being used to accomplish a righteous goal. We never, never are to do this!

For example, someone may enjoy beating or kicking his wife. He realizes that this is an ungodly practice, but he reasons that it is good for her in that the punishment causes her to remain meek and obedient to her husband. He thinks that Christ is pleased with the result and will overlook the means being used to cause her to have a good attitude toward her husband.

Believe it or not, there are Christians who are that stupid.

We never are to use ungodly means to accomplish godly goals!

If God temporarily employs an ungodly aspect of our personality to accomplish His will, keeping in mind that later He will purge this aspect from us when He gets the result He desires, this is God's wisdom and righteousness and we are not to attempt to imitate it.

We understand that the Lord Jesus, who with His Word created the heavenly bodies in space, could, with that same Word, remove all evil personalities from mankind.
