CHAPTER 11

AND it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazorhad heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king ofShimron, and to the king of Achshaph,
2 And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south ofChinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,
3 And to the Canaanite on the east and onthe west, and to the Amorite, and theHittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.
4 And they went out, they and all their hostswith them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots verymany.
5 And when all these kings were met together,they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.
6 ¶ And the Lordsaid unto Joshua, Be not afraidbecause of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slainbefore Israel:thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariotswith fire.
7 So Joshuacame, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Meromsuddenly; and they fell upon them.
8 And the Lorddelivered them into the hand of Israel,who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, andunto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; andthey smote them, until they left them none remaining.
9 And Joshuadid unto them as the Lord badehim: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.
10 ¶ And Joshua at that time turned back, andtook Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime wasthe head of all those kingdoms.
11 And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword,utterly destroying them: there wasnot any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.
12 And all the cities of those kings, and allthe kings of them, did Joshua take,and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Mosesthe servant of the Lord commanded.
13 But as for the cities that stood still intheir strength, Israelburned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.
14 And all the spoil of these cities, and thecattle, the children of Israeltook for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of thesword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.
15 ¶ As the Lordcommanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua,and so did Joshua; he left nothingundone of all that the Lordcommanded Moses.
16 So Joshuatook all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen,and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel,and the valley of the same;
17 Even from the mount Halak,that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanonunder mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.
18 Joshuamade war a long time with all those kings.
19 There was not a city that made peace withthe children of Israel, savethe Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.
20 For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come againstIsrael in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them,as the Lord commanded Moses.
21 ¶ And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains,from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from allthe mountains of Judah,and from all the mountains of Israel:Joshua destroyed them utterly withtheir cities.
22 There was none of the Anakims left in theland of the children of Israel:only in Gaza, in Gath,and in Ashdod,there remained.
23 So Joshuatook the whole land, according to all that the Lordsaid unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel accordingto their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

7 ¶ And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children ofIsrael smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baal-gad in the valley ofLebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; which Joshua gaveunto the tribes of Israel for apossession according to their divisions;

CHAPTER 13

NOW Joshuawas old and stricken in years; andthe Lord said unto him, Thou artold and stricken in years, and thereremaineth yet very much land to be possessed.
2 This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and allGeshuri,
3 From Sihor, which is before Egypt,even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, andthe Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also theAvites:
4 From the south, all the land of theCanaanites, and Mearah that is besidethe Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:
5 And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, towardthe sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.
6 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I driveout from before the children of Israel:only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I havecommanded thee.
7 Now therefore divide this land for aninheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh,
8 With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites havereceived their inheritance, which Mosesgave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Mosesthe servant of the Lord gave them;
9 From Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and allthe plain of Medeba unto Dibon;
10 And all the cities of Sihon king of theAmorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;
11 And Gilead, and the border of the Geshuritesand Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashanunto Salcah;
12 All the kingdomof Og in Bashan,which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of thegiants: for these did Moses smite, andcast them out.
13 Nevertheless the children of Israel expellednot the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and theMaachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.
14 Only unto the tribe of Levihe gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israelmade by fire are their inheritance,as he said unto them.
15 ¶ And Moses gave unto the tribe of thechildren of Reuben inheritance according to their families.
16 And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, andthe city that is in the midst of theriver, and all the plain by Medeba;
17 Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, andBamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,
18 And Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,
19 And Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, andZareth-shahar in the mount of the valley,
20 And Beth-peor, and Ashdoth-pisgah, andBeth-jeshimoth,
21 And all the cities of the plain, and all thekingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, whichreigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smotewith the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in thecountry.
22 ¶ Balaam also the son of Beor, thesoothsayer, did the children of Israelslay with the sword among them that were slain by them.
23 And the border of the children of Reuben was Jordan,and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and thevillages thereof.
24 And Mosesgave inheritance unto the tribe ofGad, even unto the children of Gadaccording to their families.
25 And their coast was Jazer, and all thecities of Gilead, and half the land of thechildren of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;
26 And from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, andBetonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;
27 And in the valley, Beth-aram, andBeth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdomof Sihon king of Heshbon,Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnerethon the other side Jordan eastward.
28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, andtheir villages.
29 ¶ And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh:and this was the possession of thehalf tribe of the children of Manasseh by theirfamilies.
30 And their coast was from Mahanaim, allBashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan,threescore cities:
31 And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei,cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children ofMachir the son of Manasseh, even tothe one half of the children of Machir by their families.
32 These are the countries which Moses diddistribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab,on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.
33 But unto the tribe of Levi Mosesgave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

CHAPTER 14

AND these are the countries which the children of Israelinherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathersof the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritanceto them.
2 By lot was their inheritance, as the Lordcommanded by the hand of Moses, forthe nine tribes, and for the halftribe.
3 For Moseshad given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritanceamong them.
4 For the children of Josephwere two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: thereforethey gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattleand for their substance.
5 As the Lordcommanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, andthey divided the land.
6 ¶ Then the children of Judah came unto Joshuain Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thouknowest the thing that the Lordsaid unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea.
7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and Ibrought him word again as it was in mine heart.
8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with memade the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God.
9 And Mosessware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shallbe thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast whollyfollowed the Lord my God.
10 And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said,these forty and five years, even since the Lord spakethis word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness:and now, lo, I am this day fourscoreand five years old.
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as mystrength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to goout, and to come in.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereofthe Lord spake in that day; for thouheardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said.
13 And Joshuablessed him, and gave unto Caleb theson of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
14 Hebrontherefore became the inheritance of Calebthe son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he whollyfollowed the Lord God of Israel.
15 And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
