The debasing influence of such a companionship

"A righteous man is cautious in friendship" Proverbs 12:26

"A man of many companions may come to ruin" Proverbs 18:24

We do not know what we are letting into our life when we take into companionship, even for one hour — one who is not good, not pure, not true.

We cannot estimate the debasing influence of such a companionship when continued until it becomes intimacy; when confidences are exchanged, when soul touches soul, when life flows into and blends with life!

When one awakens to the consciousness of the fact that he has formed or is forming a companionship with one whose influence cannot but hurt him, and perhaps destroy him — there is only one true thing to do — it must instantly be given up.

"Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared!" Proverbs 22:24-25
