God deals with the soul in grace, as the clever sculptor deals with the marble block.
He chips out a piece here, and makes prominent a piece there—and at last brings out the beautiful figure.
So the blessed Spirit—that true sculptor, who engraves Christ's image in the heart—sometimes gives and sometimes takes—sometimes pares here, sometimes puts on there—until at last He brings forth the image of Christ in the soul!
