===Throws demons out of two man of Gadara (Gerasa)===

One wild man healed when a legion of demons were cast out of him. Matthew talks about two men. The devil is strong, but Jesus is stronger. Account in three gospels, Mt.8:28-34; Mr.5:1-20; Lk.8:26-39

The devil is Strong:

A wild person,

3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain.

4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.

5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. (Mr.5).

I have seen persons like this one in Psychiatric wards... other accounts of the gospels describe The epileptic healed and had no more convulsions, the woman with the spine bent by Satan for 18 years who is healed... a mute and blind healed...

And I believe medicine and theology both can learn something from the Bible accounts of demons and healings.

We have to be aware of the devil, it exists, says the Bible, he even tempted Jesus, he is going to tempt you and me, 8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings (1Pet.5:8-9).

But Jesus is stronger. The strength of the devil compared with the strength of Jesus is like a grain of sand compared with the universe, the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1Jn.4:4). You never be afraid of the devil if Jesus is in you (Gal.2:20)

Here Jesus cast out a "legion" of demons, how many?, the Roman legion were 6,000 soldiers, the number of pigs in this miracle was 2,000 (Mr.5:13).

The Demons recognize Jesus:

Here they shout, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won't torture me!"

8 For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil spirit!" (Mar.5). Mathew says,

29 "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" (Mat.8:29).

24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" (Mr.1:24).

41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ . (Lk.4:40-41).

Animals possessed by demons:

It is the only account in the gospels, but it did happened to a large herd of pigs,

11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside.

12 The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them."

13 He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. (Mar.5)

All the people were amazed:

Yes, it was a miracle, a wonder as the Bible describes it, and the gospels are the only account we have of the event, And all the people were amazed. (Mr.5:20).

All the people except the owners of the pigs who asked Jesus to leave their region (Mr.5:17). We should never ever ask Jesus to leave our lives because a herd of pigs or because a million dollars.

To the healed man: Go home:

The healed man wanted to become a disciple of Jesus, but instead Jesus sent him home to tell about the healing, the only time this happens in the gospels,

18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him.

19 Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you."

20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. (Mr.5).

Mark 5 The Healing of a Demon-possessed Man:

1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.

2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him.

6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.

7 He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won't torture me!"

8 For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil spirit!"

9 Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many."

10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.

15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well.

17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.

And all the people were amazed.
