<p>The Old Testament cherubim are depicted as griffin-like creatures, probably derived from Babylonian beliefs, although in medieval Jewish folklore they were thought of as beautiful men.</p>
<p>In post-medieval western European art they are usually depicted as <em>putti</em>: chubby, winged infants (cherubs).</p>
