The Journey of Israel

These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. (First Corinthians 10:11—NIV)

There are four great types found in the Old Testament. These are:

The seven feasts of the Lord.

The Tabernacle of the Congregation.

The days of creation.

The journey of Israel from Egypt to Canaan.

Each of these four types may be divided into seven parts or stages, each stage typifying an aspect of redemption. Each of the four types has four applications:

To the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

To the growth of the believer from a guilty, chaotic personality to the fullness of maturity as a living stone in the eternal Temple of God.

To the growth of the Church from an assortment of competing social gatherings to the one unblemished Bride of the Lamb.

To the program of installing the Kingdom of God on the earth.

We shall now apply the journey of Israel from Egypt to Canaan to the growth of the Church from an assortment of competing social gatherings to the one unblemished Bride of the Lamb.

What the Passover symbolizes. The journey of the descendants of Jacob began with the sprinkling of the blood of the Lamb on the door posts of their houses. The purpose of the blood-shield was to protect the Israelite families from the judgment of God as God passed over the land of Egypt to slay each firstborn child and the firstborn of cattle.

Some are teaching today that it was not God but Satan that passed over Israel and killed the firstborn of Egypt. So great is the current ignorance of the Scriptures! So great is the influence of humanism on the Gospel of the Kingdom and the interpretation of the Scriptures!

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. (Exodus 12:12)

"I will pass through the land." "I will smite." "I will execute judgment." "I am the Lord." Is Satan speaking here? It is time for a reformation of Christian thinking!

One reason believers cannot accept the fact that the Christians will follow Christ into battle is that they cannot conceive of the saints of the Lord executing Divine judgment. Our difficulty is not with the statements of the Scriptures, for they are quite clear. Our difficulty is that we have been deceived by the philosophy of humanism, the idea that the rights and comforts of man must prevail in every circumstance, the same spirit that spoke through Peter in the attempt to persuade the Lord Jesus to not go up to Jerusalem and suffer there.

What spirit is it that overemphasizes the "love of God" in this mistaken manner?

From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. (Matthew 16:21-23)
