Jesus is the YHWH, the "I am" of the Old and New Testaments

I Am who I Am:

In the Gospel of St. John Jesus the Messiah repeats eight times he is "I am", the same "I am" he told Moses in Exodus 3:14:

Exodus 3:13-15:

13 Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"

14 God said to Moses, "I am who I am . This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I Am has sent me to you.' " ... (YHWH)

15 ... This is my name for ever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation

YHWH, "I Am", "I Am who I Am", "I Am that I Am".

YHWH... I AM... The name of God (Ex.3:14):

"YHWH", the Tetragrammaton, "four letters", used 6800 times in the Hebrew text of the Old Testament, are the 4 consonants we have in Hebrew of the name of God... we don't know the vowels in between, because the Jews had so much reverence to the name of God that they never pronounced it, they called Him Adonai (Lord, my supreme Lord) or Elohim (the Almighty One)... and they never wrote the vowels in between.

The sages of the Talmud forbade the Jews to pronounce the name of God and even said that he who pronounces His name will not have a portion in the world to come.

The 70 rabies of the Septuagint, in the third century before Christ, pronounced them in Greek as "YaHWeH", or Yahveh, or simply Yave, and it is the name left to us in the Catholic Bibles. The rabies of the Masoretic text, in the sixth century after Christ, have it as "JeHoWaH", or Jehovah, the name used in most Protestant Bibles.

"I am who I am... I am" is the translation of the Hebrew into English of the name of God... it is the essence of God, the one that always is, eternal, immutable... the Lord, the Almighty One, the Creator, the Savior... This is my name for ever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation (Ex.3:15).

Many have been the theological and philosophical interpretations of this glorious name, but Jesus Christ gave us the practical interpretation with the 8 "I am" in the Gospel of John:

1- I am the bread of life (Jn.6:35)
2- I am the light of the world (Jn.8:12)
3- I am the gate (Jn.10:9)
4- I am the good shepherd (Jn.10:11)
5- I am the resurrection (Jn.11:25)
6- I am the way and the truth and the life (Jn.14:6)
7- I am the true vine (Jn.15:1)
8- Before Abraham was, I am (Jn.8:58)... this last "I am" of Jesus the Messiah have the scent of eternity and power... not "I was", but "I am"... I am the immutable one, but the author of all change and movement... Jesus is always eternally the same I am... "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever" (Heb.13:8).

I am the way and the truth and the life (Jn.14:6):

Jesus not only came to show us the way... He Himself is the Way!

Jesus not only came to teach us the truth... He himself is the only Truth!

Jesus nor only came to show us how to live... He himself is the only Life!

Jesus Himself is a our bread of life, and our light, and our creator, and our savior, and the resurrection...

Do you have needs or problems in your life?: I am with you always, trust in me! (Mt.28:20), I am your good Shepherd, says Jesus... I am the one who nourishes you, and heals you, and saves you, the one always with you to love you...

Do you need life or light or salvation?: I am the life and the light and the salvation, trust in me!, says Jesus the Messiah.

Do you need forgiveness of sins or the joy of the grace?: I am forgiveness and the grace, says Jesus... here I am, trust in me!.

Jesus is your health, he wants to be your physician and your lawyer, and your accountant, and your love, and he wants to fill you with joy and love and peace, now on earth and in Heaven, because he himself is the joy and the love and the peace for all eternity!… he is the "I am"!.

And he is not only "with" us, he is "inside" us, Abide in me, and I in you (Jn.15:4), we in Him, in his Mystical Body, in his Church, and He in us, as Paul claims, I no longer live, but Christ lives in me (Gal.2:20)... If a man remains in me, in my Church, and I in him, in grace, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (Jn.15:5).

Jesus says: he that hath seen me hath seen the Father (Jn.14:9)... so, actually, the best picture of God the Father is Jesus on the crib at Bethlehem, or on the cross at Calvary, or as a carpenter... yes, whoever sees Jesus sees the Father!.

Yes, the name of Jesus Christ is the modern pronunciation of the YHWH mentioned 6800 times in the Old Testament.

The name Yahweh (YHWH) tells us what God is in Himself: "I AM THAT I AM" or "I AM" or "I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE". This sacred name of God represents what God is in His essential nature- “He is”-no argument; simply stating the fact that “God is!”.

For His people, He will be everything! Is He everything to you? Do you know what to call Him? His word says, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) Why not ask Him to be your Yahweh and Savior! If you have accepted Him as your Yahweh and Savior, think about what this means and thank Him continually for being your God.

And you have to remain in Him, in His Mystical Body, in His only One Church (Jn.15, 1Cor.12, Rom.12, Eph.4)... and He in you, by grace... if you are in sin, you are still in his Body, in his Church, but as a member with gangrene, as a death branch, Jesus is not anymore in you! (1Cor.12, Jn.15).

- The Holy Spirit is always referred to as the Spirit. About 500 times in the OT.

The term Yahweh is used with reference to God's personal relationship, and the term Elohim is used with reference to God's sovereignty over all: Jehoshaphat cried out and Yahweh helped him; and Elohim moved them to depart from him" (2 Chronicles 18:31)

YHWH...

Yahweh and Jehovah, Yahshua:

The Tetragrammaton, YHWH, is the transliteration of four Hebrew consonants which signify the name of the Israelite God. The symbols are not believed to be the name itself, but only a substitute for the secret name. The real name was supposedly too sacred to be uttered by the common Israelite in public. It is believed, by some, that the letters of this Tetragrammaton may have been an abbreviation, perhaps like the first letters of our R.S.V.P. or U.S.A. A most remarkable thing has occurred here, though. Surprisingly, the meaning and thus significance of the symbols, YHWH, have been lost, though numerous suggestions have been advanced. Not the name of a lowly priest or prophet, but the name of the cornerstone of the Israelite religion has lost its meaning. What word would be more important to understand in the Old Testament?.

The Sacred Name appears in the Hebrew Scriptures as four Hebrew letters YHWH. According to Jewish tradition it is regarded as 'not to be uttered' in order never to profane it in any way. In Judaism it is therefore pronounced as 'Adonai', meaning 'Lord'

The Tetragrammaton "YHWH":

The Hebrew word YHWH comes from the Hebrew verb ‘to be’.

According to the Talmudic Scholar Nahmanides (Commentary on Exodus 3:13). The spelling in Hebrew includes the letters of the verb "to be" in the three tenses: (Past, Present and Future):

"I was, I am, I will be."

Or more completely (First Person version): "I, (always) was, am (now) and (always) will be (with you*)"

Or In the name of the Creator (Third Person version): "who (always) was, is (now) and (always) will be (with us*)"

(* Inferred by the name itself)

Yahweh:

Since Hebrew has no vowels and most of our English sounds and words include vowels, the name was been modified to “Yahweh” the most often pronunciation which is close to a simple pronunciation of the letters YHWH.

The 70 rabies of the Septuagint, in the third century before Christ, pronounced them in Greek as "YaHWeH", or Yahveh, or simply Yave, and it is the name left to us in the Catholic Bibles.

This Septuagint is the Greek Translation of the Bible at the time of Jesus, the one used by the Apostles to write the New Testament in Greek... the next Masoretic Bible, in Hebrew, using the name Jehovah, was done six centuries after Christ.

Jehovah:

The Masoretes, who from about the 6th to the 10th century worked to reproduce the original text of the Hebrew Bible, replaced the vowels of the name YHWH with the vowel signs of the Hebrew word Adonai or Elohim. Thus the artificial name Jehovah (YeHoWaH) came into being. Jehovah, the name used in most Protestant Bibles.

Yahshua: The prefix Yah is an abbreviation of Yahweh. The Bible makes great use of this short form. "Shua" means "salvation", "savior". The whole name signifies "Yah is salvation" or the "salvation of Yah". Miryam and Yoceph (Mary and Joseph) spoke Hebrew, not English or French. They gave Him a Hebrew name, Yahshua, not Jesus. There is no J in Hebrew.

Elohim:

Elohim is God in plural, as a family:

"And God (Elohim - plural of deities) said, Let US (plural) make man in OUR (plural) image, after OUR (plural) likeness: and let them (plural) have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." (Ge.1:26 NIV).

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them (plural). (Ge.1:27)

The first factor in understanding the proper definition of God from the Hebrew perspective is that the word is the plural of deity. It is similar to the word family. A family is one entity comprised of more than one member. For example, my family was comprised of four members, we were the James family and my individual title was Dallas. The word "Elohim" is a specific class of beings whose individual members are further defined by the first names they carry. This class of beings is first set forth in the first chapter of Genesis. " And God created great whales, and EVERY LIVING CREATURE that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, AFTER THEIR KIND, and every winged foul after HIS KIND: and God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:21 (KJV)

All the various kinds of living creatures found in the book of Genesis, including mankind, were made in the image and likeness of the GOD-KIND.

The Bible specifies later that the Family of God are three persons but only one God: The Father... the Son, the Word, Jesus Christ... and the Holy Spirit. The most glorious mystery of the Holy Trinity
